Dyeing for Inspiration
with Thomas Roach & Kathy Kinsella

WELL-KNOWN AND RESPECTED TEXTILE ARTISTS AND TEACHERS Thomas Roach and Kathy Kinsella have teamed up to offer an inspirational course you'll be “dyeing” to take!

Come and experience eco printing, indigo dyeing and rust printing on fabric and paper.

We will collect leaves from the gardens and use them to transfer the colours and shapes of nature to paper and fabric. We will encourage rusty metals to make marks for us and we will dip into an indigo vat that produces magical blues.

Woven into our week together will be the simple pleasure of some hand stitching inspired by the intriguing and inspirational results of our dyeing and printing.

We hope that this will provide inspiration for future explorations. No experience necessary – come explore and play with us!

A $25 materials fee is payable on the first day.

Kathy KinsellaKATHY KINSELLA is a textile artist who lives just down the lake from Sorrento Centre. Eco printing and natural dyeing with locally gathered leaves are Kathy's current obsession and many of the fabrics in her work are hand-painted, hand dyed or eco printed. She delights in exploring a variety of surface treatments and in using hand stitching to create added texture and interest.

Find Kathy's Etsy shop online at kathykinsella.etsy.com or on Facebook at kk.fibre.art. Her fibre art blog is at kathykinsella.blogspot.ca.

Thomas RoachTHOMAS ROACH is a Vancouver-based textile and liturgical artist who taught himself to sew at age six because he couldn’t draw. Many years later he is still stitching and working with textiles.

His art seeks connection to the sacred through the use of natural dyes and stitch, and he engages communities with art projects that encourage stitching as a medium for prayer. He is a proud graduate of the Textile Arts program at Capilano University. Visit his website: thomasroach.ca
