Worship and Music - Week 1
with Peter Elliott, Jeffrey Preiss & Kevin Zakresky

Peter ElliottPETER ELLIOTT, Dean of Christ Church Cathedral Vancouver since 1994, has led courses at Sorrento Centre in years past and is looking forward to co-leading worship this summer. He particularly enjoys the interplay between music and liturgy and is pleased to be working with the skilled liturgists and musicians at Sorrento this week.

Finding ways for all ages to participate in worship is particularly important to Peter. Sorrento Centre’s outdoor and indoor spaces offer ranges of creative possibilities that will be our settings for worship.

Jeffrey Preiss JEFFREY PREISS is a postulant in the Diocese of New Westminster and Manager of Community Engagement at QMUNITY, BC’s queer, trans, and two-spirit resource centre. Jeffrey can be found at his favourite Thursday spin class, reading books on topics such as deconstruction, queer theory and theology, playing darts, and drinking wine while cooking.

He lives on the unceded territory of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations. Jeffrey holds a B.A. (history), an M.A. (theology), an M.A. (cultural studies), and a number of professional certificates in public relations, leadership and facilitation, fundraising, and public participation.

Kevin ZakreskyKEVIN ZAKRESKY, hailed as “un jeune chef très talentueux” by Radio-Canada, is conductor of the Pacifica Singers and Music Director at St Helen’s Anglican Church in Vancouver. He is the past Music Director of the Prince George Symphony Orchestra and has recently conducted the St Louis Symphony, Sudbury Symphony, West Coast Symphony and the Vancouver Chamber Choir. In the Spring of 2016 he launched the Sea to Sky Symphony in Vancouver. He completed his Doctorate in choral conducting at Yale University in 2012.

Kevin has recently been appointed Associate Conductor of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses, a touring company that has brought him to conduct orchestras in London (with the Royal Philharmonic in Wembley Arena), Montreal, Philadelphia, Buenos Aires, Santiago, Columbus, San Antonio, Charlottesville, Oklahoma City, Miami, Quebec City, Fresno, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton and Montreal. He continues with the tour throughout 2017.
