A May long weekend event for youth and young adults ages 13-25
Young Sojourners Weekend
“Where Words Leave Off, Music Begins”
with Kevin Zakresky and Andrew Halladay
“Where words leave off, music begins”.
This quotation from the 19th century German poet Heinrich Heine speaks volumes, but ultimately cannot tell the whole story.
Words are unable to fully explain the power of music - the power to communicate, to unite, to motivate, to heal, to change us all.
As Dumbledore said, “Ah, Music . . . a magic beyond all we do here!”
Join us for a weekend of musical exploration and philosophy. We will listen to music, perform music, compose music, and talk about why this magical art form has been so important for all cultures throughout history and how it continues to affect us in our world today.
KEVIN ZAKRESKY is a choral and orchestral conductor living in Vancouver. Most recently, he has toured the world conducting the Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses as well as RePlay: Symphony of Heroes. Next year he will conduct a world tour of the National Geographic Symphony. When in Vancouver he teaches singing, directs operas and leads music at St Helen’s Anglican Church in Point Grey.
ANDREW HALLADAY is an Anglican priest in the Diocese of New Westminster, Vicar of the Parish of St. Augustine’s Marpole in Vancouver, a trainer for the Diocesan School for Parish Development, and a ringleader of the Diocesan Arts ministry Sheep and Goats. He is chaplain to the British Columbia and Yukon Anglican Youth Movement (BCYAYM).

Yes, work projects! These are some of the most memorable moments of the weekend for some. When Young Sojourners gather at Sorrento Centre we participate in work projects on site and on the farm to help get the space ready for the summer! In the past this has involved: trail work, painting, planting seeds at the farm, preparing and planting flower beds, clean-up of the outdoor chapel and lots more!
