The Awesomeness of Leaves
with Kathy Kinsella
EDO PRINTING IS AN ART FORM THAT CREATES MAGICAL RESULTS when combining leaves and a pot of water . . . well, maybe there's a bit more to it than that!
This workshop is suitable for beginners but provides plenty of content for more experienced fibre artists.
You will explore the possibilities of dyeing fabric with natural dyes and discover which leaves and plant materials gathered from around Sorrento Centre give predictable results.
You will learn how to prepare the natural dye, how the fabric is prepared, and which materials you will need to do this on your own at home.
You will eco print and dye raw silk fabric that can be used as a tablerunner, or scarf, or for another purpose.
You will also eco print on paper, a process which can be used in cardmaking and scrapbooking.
A materials fee of $20 is payable to the instructor on the first day
KATHY KINSELLA is a textile artist who lives just down the lake from Sorrento Centre. Eco printing and natural dyeing with locally gathered leaves are Kathy's current obsessions and many of the fabrics in her work are hand-painted, hand-dyed, or eco printed. She is exploring eco printing on paper, which offers possibilities in scrapbooking and in creating handmade books and cards. She delights in exploring a variety of surface treatments and using hand-stitching to create added texture and interest.
